Impeller Robotic Auto Welding Machine is designed for closed or semi-open impellers. The system “sees” the welding seam through vision or laser sensing, and then adjusts the robot’s attitude and the angle of the positioner in real time to ensure that each weld seam travels precisely along the blade profile, which not only solves the problem of difficulty in accessing deep grooves, easy to clench edges, and easy to be deformed by traditional manual work, but also avoids the abnormal dynamic balance due to unequal heat input.

Machine Composition 

The Impeller Robotic Auto Welding Machine has a simple and compact composition: a rotatable impeller shifter, which is divided into L-type and H-type according to its weight; a set of vision-integrated welding guns for real-time tracing and application of welds; a follower clearing system for automatic wire shearing and dross removal; and an electrical box and computer with integrated control and computation. The four parts work together to complete the entire welding process.

Technical Core and Process

The core technology and process of Altron Impeller Robotic Auto Welding Machine can be summarized as “see first, then weld accurately, and finally no deformation”: after the machine starts, the laser vision system uses the triangulation principle to measure the distance. The whole equipment runs in the open system of industrial computer, new products just need to import CAD data, within ten minutes to complete the process package switching, and truly achieve “change type without changing people”.

When the machine is started, the laser vision system sweeps the entire impeller in 3-5 seconds using the triangulation principle, and generates the true 3D coordinates and bevel depth of each weld directly into a robot path without any teaching or modeling. The six-axis ABB/KUKA robot rotates synchronously with the dual-axis shifter to maintain the ideal angle between the welding torch and the blade; the welding current, speed and swing are fine-tuned in real time by AI algorithms to compensate for micron-sized deformation caused by heat input. The gun cleaning station automatically cuts wire, removes slag and sprays oil after each weld to ensure the next arc is clean.

In aerospace repair shops, it is used to refinish titanium compressor rotors. Shipyards push it to the root of the blade to weld nickel-aluminum-bronze propellers, 25 mm thick can also be melted through at once. The automobile supercharger production line changes three batches per day, and the connection seam between the compressor impeller and the shaft sleeve is welded in a few minutes.
